From the smallest (only 16" wide) to the largest (15 feet from
end to end) a handcarved wood sign is a unique touch, each one unlike
any other.
These signs are handcarved from 2x stock,
mostly pine or cypress, and are finished with various combinations of
sign enamels, glazes, and varnishes. The wider signs are
edge-glued and may also be reinforced with cleats from behind to limit
warping.
The sign at left, "303," was laminated from 1x pine. The bandsawn
numbers and gingerbread were nailed and glued in place.
Eventually, the plaque was painted, and mounted in the gable of a
Victorian house, surrounded by period trimwork.
